DONATED PHOTOS

These pictures where sent to us by Joe McDonald, who is clearly an expert modeler and we'll hopefully get more photos of any P‑38 projects he does!  Here are a couple of his comments:

I got a lot of fantastic information from the Bong Heritage Center in Wisconsin.  They even had what I believe is a never before seen photo of the starboard side of that plane showing a repeat of his victory board.  So, I put that on my model.

The one thing about my model that I am a little disappointed with is the tire tread pattern.  Neither the Hasegawa kit nor the aftermarket (True Details) tires are correct for that plane at that time.  It should have had a directional tread pattern, but I settled for a diamond pattern.  Several photos of Bong’s plane clearly show that directional tread pattern. To my knowledge, no aftermarket firm makes such tires for P-38’s.

Marjorie Blake (Association Membership Chairman, Steve Blake's wife) was nice enough to send us this beautiful drawing she did of the Martin Monti P-38, mentioned in the August 2008 issue of the newsletter.

Here are photos of a wooden P-38 carved by Eddie McCrory.  It is about 2" long,
the props turn and it is made from a pine box wood.
